Duke Medicine Orchestra has commissioned NY-based composer Michael Markowski <http://www.michaelmarkowski.com/> to transcribe his beautiful work City Trees for us. Michael will join us for the premiere here in Durham and will be able to share his inspiration for the work. Local artist Clara K Johnson <http://www.clarakjohnson.com/> has created four art works to go with the City Trees theme of our concert and will display her artwork in the lobby of Baldwin Auditorium at the concert. Michael and Clara will give a give a pre-concert talk at 7pm, and the concert will begin at 7:30pm. The concert program also includes España by Chabrier, the overture from Hänsel and Gretel by Humperdink, and the Grand Canyon Suite by Grofé. The concert and talk are free and open to the public.
The Art Auction will start online and will remain open until midnight, December 10. The auction piece titled, Sapling Serenade, may be viewed in person at the concert and at Pleiades Gallery, 109 E. Chapel Hill St., Durham, NC 27701 from December 2 to December 9.
Proceeds generated from the auction will benefit the Duke Medicine Orchestra.
