On October 4th Haiti braced itself once more for another catastrophic natural disaster. Forecasters said it was the strongest storm to make landfall in Haiti since 1964. This hurricane was predicted to be a Category 4 Hurricane named Matthew with 145 mile-per-hour winds and torrential rain. 56 days later many of us have forgotten Hurricane Matthew…but not so for the victims who were left homeless and hungry. The hurricane damaged and destroyed thousands of homes in Haiti, it destroyed crops and livestock leaving families with no means to earn an income and feed their children. I am asking you today as you celebrate with your families in a warm home with a roof over your head would you consider these families that 56 days later are still sleeping under the stars and still affected by the constant rain that falls in the mountains every day in Haiti.

Baby Lucson…

As an organization we push to always find the blessings that surround us. This was no different following the devastation left behind by Hurricane Matthew. This year we've partnered with malnutrition centers to care for those suffering with acute malnutrition in Belle Fontaine. It's been 3 weeks now since Pennies for Haiti sponsored Lucson in the malnutrition program. Unknown to me, his family was going to be presented to us just weeks later as a family truly in need of relief aid.

Lucson is an 18 months old boy living in Belle Fontaine. His parents have eight children; two of which are at the malnutrition center. This is the blessing I found in this family. Though their home was damaged during the hurricane, it is thanks to supporters like you that we were able to support this family in their time of need to prevent them from losing a son!

With your help we can continue on counting blessings, as we help one family at a time put a roof over their heads.
