Pacifica Senior Services - Meals on Wheels

A Charity Auction Event

Each December for the last decade, City of Pacifica employees (by department), community groups, local businesses, and generous individuals have donated unique, beautiful and valuable auction items in order to provide a "Night on the Town" each February for otherwise homebound Pacifica Meals on Wheels clients.

The next "Night Out on the Town" is planned for February 28, 2018.  This evening provides a much needed social opportunity for our clients during which they can enjoy an elegant dinner, flowers, live entertainment, a parting gift and have their portrait taken by professional photographer Lynne Fried of Capture Today's Magic.  Clients have the option of being transported to and from the event in Pacifica Senior Services' 20-passenger, wheelchair lift-equipped bus.  For those who can come, it is likely their only evening out during the year.  All expenses for "Night Out on the Town" are covered by the generosity of donors and bidders who participate in this wonderful auction.

You can bid on auction items right here online or in person on:

Sunday, December 3 at Direct Mortgage Funding during the Rockaway Tree Lighting from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Monday, December 4 - Wednesday, December 6 at the Community Center from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm in the Senior Lounge.

BIDDING CLOSES WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 6 at 5:00 pm!

Pacifica Senior Services, a division of Pacifica Parks, Beaches & Recreation, was established in 1974 and is the community focal point for seniors' quality of life.  Our staff and volunteers are committed to providing services and programs for older adults (60 years young plus) including those with disabilities that maintain and enhance the quality of their lives, reduce isolation, and promote socialization.  Senior Services' programs are currently funded by Older American Act grants, San Mateo County grants (San Mateo County Health, Aging & Adult Services), City of Pacifica General Fund support, Pacificans Care grants, charitable donations, client donations and thousands of volunteer hours.

If you are interested in volunteering with Senior Services, please contact Janis Haynes at 650 738-7384 or Ann Cooney at 650 738-7350.

Last year our culinary staff prepared and volunteers delivered 15,300 scratch-cooked meals to 150 Meals on Wheels clients. An additional 13,000 meals were prepared and served to seniors at the Pacifica Community Center where 40 classes and activities from bingo to Zumba Gold take place every week!  Information & Referral, podiatry, hair salon, "Pop-Up Library," dietary consults and many other services are also available onsite.

All this continues to be possible thanks to the leadership of the Pacifica City Council, the Pacifica Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission including liaison Chair Michael Mau, our Seniors in Auction Council and the strategic guidance provided by the Offices of the City ManagerCity Attorney and City Clerk.  Ongoing maintenance and recent upgrades to the Community Center are accomplished with our colleagues in Public Works, Planning, and the Calera Water Recycling Plant.  Our first responders from the Pacifica Police Department and dispatch to Pacifica Firefighters and EMTs both prepare us for emergencies and respond to them in ways that literally save seniors' lives.  Pacifica Finance, MIS and Human Resource teams are partners in all the ways that help us increase productivity while being true stewards of contributed resources.

Every day, and certainly during the holidays, Pacifica Seniors Services is grateful for the work of all of our colleagues and partners whose professionalism, efforts and expertise make the City of Pacifica such a wonderful place to live, work and play!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
