Up the Ante

Indigenous Art & Anti-colonial Art Silent Auction

"Up the ante" is our second annual Indigenous Art & Settler Anti-colonial Art Show & Silent Auction.  It begins with appreciation for Indigenous artists' gifts, and commitment to critically respond to our colonial inheritances. We hope that by showcasing contemporary and customary Indigenous art, alongside anti-colonial works by Settler artists, this show will also "up the ante" in (re)negotiating our ways of living together here on Nipissing territory.

EXHIBITION: November 25 - December 16

ONLINE SILENT AUCTION: December 5th - December 16th

This exhibition showcases Indigenous art and Settler anti-colonial art that has been generously donated by local artists and arts supporters. Proceeds from the silent auction will be dedicated to the White Water Gallery's renovation fund, so we can carry on our 40 year artist-run tradition in North Bay.  This year we are building a couple of walls to create: (1) a studio space for emerging Indigenous artists, new generation artists, and artists with extraordinary minds; (2) a small exhibition space for regional artists and artists in residency to showcase their work; and (3) a main exhibition space that has less light pollution and better acoustics, for the media art that we show.

In line with our mandate to support artists, 100% of sale prices and 5% of resale prices will be returned to the artist themselves (as per CARFAC's Recommendations for an Artist Resale Right in Canada).

We also welcome donations, and if you donate $100 or more, we can offer you a charitable tax receipt. Optionally,  paying an additional 20% of Item(s) value will go towards the gallery.
