Maryland Families for Safe Birth is a non profit working to improve maternity care in Maryland through legislative changes.  

In 2015, Maryland Families for Safe Birth supported legislative changes to license Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) in Maryland.  While this was a huge step in increasing access to evidence based care in a variety of birth settings, there is still a long way to go until all families have access to culturally sensitive, evidence based maternity care.

We have huge plans for the 2021 session.  We are putting forth a bill to expand the scope of practice for CPMs so that women with a prior cesarean birth would be able to access CPM care.  This is the norm in the majority of the states where CPMs are licensed.

Unfortunately, we had to cancel our major fundraiser, the Baltimore Birth Festival, in 2020 and now we are a dire finacial situation with only enough money to pay our lobbyist through November.  We are offering this auction as our primary fundraiser this year, and we would greatly appreciate any financial donations as well (can be made on this auction site).
