MISSION: The National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) is a non-profit, membership organization dedicated to advancing dance education that supports Dance Teachers on a National Level to achieve #DanceEducationforALL.

NDEO provides dance artists, educators, and administrators of all backgrounds a network of resources and support, a base for advocacy and research, and access to professional development opportunities that focus on the importance of dance in the human experience.

For more than 20 years, the NDEO has directly impacted dance education centered in the arts by providing professional development, research, and advocacy that advances the field and fulfils our vision of “dance education for all”. This is achieved through a combination of in-person and online professional development opportunities, including our annual National Conference and Special Topic Conferences which draw over 1,000 dance educators yearly, educational articles, blogs, and publications that generate over 80,000 views and downloads, and advocacy efforts both nationally and locally. NDEO’S National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA) connects the next generation of dance teachers with information and networking opportunities, ensuring a positive future for NDEO and dance education. With our robust membership and NHSDA chapters, NDEO is well-positioned to continue advancing the field and ensuring dance education for all.

  • NDEO has more than 4,000 members across all 50 states and 34 countries
  • 5,246 future leaders were inducted into the National Honor Society for Dance Arts. There are currently 1,162 active chapters across middle schools, high schools, dance studios, colleges and universities.

Why is Dance Education so important?

  • Research and anecdotal evidence indicate that a dance arts education, when provided by a qualified dance teacher, contributes to students’ physical, emotional, and social well-being by providing a method of physical fitness, an outlet for personal expression, and a means to develop empathy and social emotional skills.
  • Students who study dance develop 21st century skills such as collaboration, communication, and creativity, and dance has been shown to positively affect students’ attitudes, perceptions, and values.
  • For these reasons, NDEO continues to advance dance education for ALL students, regardless of gender, age, race or culture, socio-economic status, ability or interest.
