The Growing Stage – The Children’s Theatre of New Jersey is holding an online auction to benefit the theatre’s ongoing mission as we continue to move forward while navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many businesses throughout the country, we were forced to temporarily close our doors and cancel the remainder of our 38th Main Stage Season. Despite the new challenges we faced as an organization, our staff continued to work from home to create online arts education programs throughout the spring and summer for our young patrons, while also offering virtual experiences such as concerts by award-winning artists, emerging playwright symposiums, and theatre-at-home performances for the whole family to enjoy!

There is nothing like the excitement, inspiration, and joy on the faces of children who experience theatre and the arts at The Growing Stage. Making those moments possible is our passion and mission. This work of art showcases the incredible talents of our Resident Artist Perry Arthur Kroeger whose set design, puppetry and interior restoration of our theatre contribute to bringing that unique experience visually to young patrons. Imagine what a piece of his art will bring into your home!

Your support is crucial to ensuring our 39th Main Stage Season moves forward as planned. We are excited to usher you back to The Historic Palace Theatre, at a limited capacity, and honored to be welcomed into your homes through our virtual programming as well. The health and safety of our performers, patrons, and artists is our utmost priority, and our mission remains to nurture the development of the performing arts through education, and to create, produce, and perform works that engage the entire family. We appreciate your consideration in making a donation.

The Growing Stage is a 501-c-3 not for profit organization registered with the State of New Jersey.

Our History:

The Growing Stage was founded by Executive Director Stephen L. Fredericks in 1982 with a small professional staff, a dedicated corps of volunteers and a dream to bring quality professional theatre to children and their families. Initially, Main Stage productions were performed at the Black River Playhouse and the Williamson Building in Chester, New Jersey. As our audience and our reputation for outstanding children’s theatre grew, the company embarked on a journey to create the only performing arts center in the state dedicated solely to young people and their families.

The Growing Stage reopened the Palace Theatre in Netcong on March 1, 1996  and for the past 25 years this historic venue has been our home. Built in 1919, the Palace was in a desperate state of disrepair when we purchased the building in 1995, and its restoration, involving thousands of hours of contractor and volunteer labor, has become an integral part of our history. In 2018, we celebrated the completion of our final major exterior capital project, capping a $3 million, 23 year renovation effort. The Growing Stage is the only theatre-for-young-audiences company in the state of New Jersey that owns its own facility, and the Palace is listed on the County, State and National Historic Registers.
