A Daylong Celebration with Education Haiti

Join Education Haiti for an all-day online event (8am-8pm on Thursday, June 16th) that will showcase the work of the Faculte de Travail Social et de Justice Sociale (FTSJS), the only accredited college of social work in Haiti. With the support of the U.S. -based nonprofit, Education Haiti and as a campus of the Episcopal University in Port au Prince, the school has persisted and grown despite the two-year pandemic and the rise of kidnapping and street violence in Haiti. Because of COVID and the street insecurity, courses have temporarily moved online. The school is currently explirung a move to a safer area, most likely in Cap Haitien. Once there, FTSJS will offer a hybrid program, making coursework available to both on-campus students and a "low residency" program for students who will learn primarily online.

The day will introduce and feature staff members, students, and professors, as well as a prieview of a new short film about three Haitian artists whose work focuses on peace. The film is produced by an Education Haiti intern/ Colby College senior, Keerthi Martyn, who was awarded a Davis Projects for Peace fellowship to develop this project. One of the artist will be developing a course that links art and social change for FTSJS. Counslting professors will also present talks related to the field of social work in Haiti and about approaches to mental health that are culturally connected.
