Leonard Turkel (1930 – 2011) was coined the “Father of Florida Condominiums” by The Miami Herald and is noted as the pioneer of the Florida condominium development boom. A native of Bronx, New York, his legacy includes a rare body of artwork by a man that proved to be one of Miami’s greatest mavericks of civic equality and community building.
The Leonard Turkel Scholarship Fund was established by the Turkel Family through the Miami Dade College Foundation and supports deserving students in under-served areas of Miami encompassing the spirit and legacy of Leonard Turkel.
