Milford Education Foundation Chair-ity Auction

Chairs Built by Students & Painted By Students!

The Milford Education Foundation (MEF) is a non-profit charity made up of volunteers whose mission is to promote excellence, innovation, and creativity in education for our children and community.  In partnership with local community organizations and Milford Public Schools, we have provided prior programs such as the Milford Invention Convention, Milford Minds in Motion, and One Day for Day One (1D4D1) for Milford's teachers.  We are also host to the Milford Robotics program in partnership with Milford Public Schools.

These specially painted Adirondack chairs available for auction are built by students at Jonathan Law High School (JLHS) and then painted by students within the Arts Departments at JLHS and Foran High School.  They are one-of-a-kind pieces of functional art+furniture that we hope you will enjoy.

Proceeds from our fundraiser goes towards MEF's annual mini-grant program.  Since MEF's creation in 2014, we've provided $78,000 in grants towards Milford Public Schools educators and administration.  These have included mural projects, unique personal finance simulation software, bridging the technology gap with seniors and students, plein-air painting workshops, programmable micro-bots, and much, much more.

Due to the extenuating circumstances of the pandemic, the Spring 2021 mini-grant program was re-imagined and re-purposed.  MEF instead funded production services by Ben Warters of Oak Ridge Productions (a JLHS alumnus) to provide some essential supports to recognize milestone events that otherwise would not have been possible.  These included:

  • Recording processional, national anthem, and other graduation band and choir music for the Jonathan Law and Foran High School ceremonies,
  • Photographing middle school students to create digital+printable middle school portraits and yearbooks at all three (3) middle schools;
  • and recording and editing a special farewell video by teachers and administrators for the graduating Seniors at the Academy.

We are so proud of Ben and his hard work this year and I hope that you and your families were able to enjoy some of his efforts.

Please support MEF's future efforts by bidding on these fantastic Adirondack Chairs!

Special thank you to our events sponsors:

  • MetroStar Properties for providing all the wood for the chairs and
  • Colony Paint for providing technical assistance and paint supplies.

Additional special thanks to:

  • Dr. Amy Fedigan and Amy Perras from Milford Public Schools for their assistance with the coordination of this project,
  • Stephen Beale and his talented students at Jonathan Law High School's Technology, Engineering and Communications Department for building the chairs, and
  • Rachel Murphy from Jonathan Law's Art Department and Emily Plude from Foran's Art Department for pairing the chairs with their fantastic student artists.

Thanks again to all of our student artists.  Without you and your talents - the Chair-ity Auction would not be possible!
