Description

Latin American/Caribbean artist John Gascot spent the first twelve years of his life in Puerto Rico, a fact to which he attributes his love of bold color. While he creates in a variety of styles, Latin Pop paintings are his signature. He affectionately coined the style "Latin Pop" after years of unsuccessful attempts at categorizing the work as one genre or another. The series combines elements of Pop, Cubism and Folk and is flavored with a Latin/Global sensibility.
The figures in John's works are often large and curvaceous. Their mass speaks more about strength and presence than actual size. He strives to create art that is accessible and promotes diversity while simultaneously celebrating and challenging social and gender roles dictated by various cultures.

His work is in various collections across the US and Europe. He is also a contributor to the Arts section of the Huffington Post.

Additional Information

International Transgender Day of Visibility is an annual event occurring on March 31 dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide, as well as a celebration of their contributions to society.

Here in St. Petersburg, we are asking 10 local artists to paint on 3’x5’ polyester trans pride flags. Flags will be displayed at 10 businesses on Central Ave for the month of March. The intention is to create dialogue and visibility around transgender people & their accomplishments. At the end of the month, flags will be auctioned off and proceeds will go towards Transgender Programs offered by Metro Inclusive Health and Trans Support Network (TSN).

All winning bids must be picked up at Metro Inclusive Health by April 15, 2020.
