The Last Green Valley Blanket

Enjoy the warmth of this handwoven 100% wool blanket. Wrap yourself in it while sitting around a campfire, get a good book and curl up on the couch, or lay on it while enjoying an outdoor evening concert.
This blanket was woven in The Last Green Valley by Myra Ambrogi of Oneco, CT. It is 70”x56” plus fringe.
Woolen mills producing yarn and fabric was a mainstay of the mill towns along the Quinebaug and Shetucket rivers. Unfortunately, those mills are gone, however there are many local hand spinners, weavers, and sheep (and alpaca) breeders found all through TLGV. A trip to the Windham Textile Museum or Old Sturbridge Village will educate you on the history of this trade. Yankee Fiber Friends, a group of individuals who meet monthly promote all aspects of the craft.
The yarn for this blanket came from Harrisville, NH. Where Harrisville Design still produces wool yarns in a tradition that dates back to the late 1700’s.
The stripes are based on the colors of The Last Green Valley. Green by day, dark by night, our blue waters, and stunning sunsets. There is a slight movement of yarn down the center this is due to the fact the blanket was woven in two layers at the same time and that is the fold line.
The blanket has been washed. Use it, let it get dirty and know you can wash it, just be careful. With each wash the blanket will fluff a bit more. You can wash your blanket as needed- remember wool does not like to be agitated. In a top loader fill the tub, add soap, and let you blanket soak, drain and spin out. Do not dry clean or ever use bleach around wool.
