It's SPRING! Time for trying Tastes of Norway at our Norwegian Heritage and Cultural Day--in a virtual way

Tusen takk for your participation in our virtual Cultural Day on Bidding Owl and in Ballard!

We have a fun schedule with some wonderful Tastes of Norway to try.

Register here under VIEW ITEMS by March 14 to participate in our adventure Scavenger Hunt! You have until March 19 at 7PM to explore Scandinavian sites (and other places of interest!) around Ballard with a 2.5 mile walk. Booklets will contain clues to finding a location, answer the question about the location, and move to the next location. All completed booklets must be turned into Skål Beer Hall (5429 Ballard Ave NW) by 7PM on Friday, March 19! All those who turn in the completed booklet by this time will get a 20% off coupon for food/drink at Skål.  Drawing at 2:30 PM on Saturday, March 20, at Leif Erikson Hall will be live streamed and fabulous prizes will be awarded. Some of the prizes are: Rabbit feast for two from Skål, Wine tasting for four with a charcuterie board from Bertelsen's Winery, and four admissions to the National Nordic Museum. Winners will be notified by contact information on registration provided here. Registrants will receive the link via email for the Zoom announcements!

Our Tastes of Norway food orders will be accepted until 4PM on Sunday, March 14. Pick up will be at Leif Erikson Hall on Saturday, March 20 from Noon-3PM. The meal will be hot! You will receive an email in regards to pick up times.

At 1PM take a look at our traditional bunad parade on our YouTube channel and see the beautiful costumes of our members and visitors from Norway. Included will be the new maps from recent changes in the fylker of Norway.

At 3PM, join a great Zoom presentation https://us04web.zoom.us/j/9155821189 by Genealogy expert Jill Morelli. The presentation will be followed by a Q and A session. "While the critical historical records of Norway are accessible online for free, many genealogists and family historians find overseas research intimidating and lack the critical parish name. This presentation will dispel some of the difficulties, outline strategies when critical information is missing, provide some basic skills necessary to access the records successfully, and identify sites which provide the greatest chance for success in identifying the parish of birth of your Norwegian ancestor. Armed with the parish name and facts gathered in the United States of your person of interest and their family, you can usually access the original parish records and start your journey even if the individual was named Hans Olsen! Two brief case studies will illustrate some of the pitfalls of Norwegian research so hopefully you won't make the same mistakes I did!"

Don't forget to take a look at our scholarship apps at https://www.leiferiksonlodge.org/scholarships Applications and supporting documents are due March 30 at Leif Erikson Hall.

Our virtual events end Saturday, March 20, at 4PM. Take a final look through all our items. You can pick up your winnings at Leif Erikson Hall on Saturday, March 20 from Noon-3PM. You will be sent an email with a time for pick up.
