About the artist

Amanda Triplett is an artist working with recycled fiber, video, and installation. Amanda creates sculptural fiber works that explore biology, identity and motherhood.

Making art in the space where fine art and craftwork intersect, I manipulate, layer and embroider salvaged fibers into abstractions of human biology. Stemming from an interest in humanity’s collective bodily narratives, I create sculptural and installation works that explore embodiment of emotion, beliefs and culture. These fiber sculptures are a craftwork meditation on all of the expectations and assumptions that come with inhabiting my own body and identity.

"I disassemble salvaged towels, sweaters and t-shirts that have warmed and wiped the bodies of their previous owners. Engaging the stories told by the wear on the weave of these fibers, I treat the aging and deterioration as a part of the creative process. Using needle and thread, I manipulate and sew the fiber into new formations. The resulting pieces are organic and biologically inspired, utilizing the natural tendency of fabric to crease and flow. The pieces are an extension of my own biological forms and become biographical of my own embodiment."

Amanda received a BA from Sarah Lawrence College in 2004 where she discovered a deep love for art making. She has shown mostly in the Bay Area and Pacific Northwest including Kaleid Gallery in San Jose, the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History, COCA in Seattle, Art House Gallery in Berkeley, Ford Gallery, Multnomah Art Gallery. Amanda recently had a solo show at the Whipple Fine Art Center Gallery at Umpqua Community College. Amanda was a 2016 Glean artist-in-resident, where she was given access to the Portland dump to glean waste materials to make sculpture and installation. She lives and works in Portland, Oregon.

All artwork is sold as is. Sales are final. Artwork should be picked up at the museum between 8pm-10pm on February 29 or March 4-7, during business hours. Purchases will not be shipped.
