Help support the installation of a new landmark 20-foot mural in downtown Cheboygan by purchasing this unique concept painting by Russ Lalonde!

The artist, Russ Lalonde, is a Cheboygan resident and proud member of the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians. Russ was chosen to be the artist for this public art work after a competitive search. The item to be auctioned is Russ’ winning concept for the new mural, which will be installed on property that was recently donated to the City of Cheboygan by Tom Chastain. The property is located on our busy Main St (US-27). It is currently vacant and unused, but has a beautiful view of the Cheboygan River, a waterway with historic significance to the indigenous Anishinaabe people and to later European settlers.

The concept painting depicts, in part, indigenous art, culture and history. Lettering on the painting is written in both English and Anishinaabemowin. Once complete, the mural will be the first work of art in Cheboygan created by a member of the Little Traverse Bay Band of Chippewa and Odawa Indians. The artwork promotes the proud heritage of our local indigenous community.

This painting is not only a beautiful piece of artwork, but will also take on historical significance once the mural is installed. Because of its location on Main St, at the entrance to the most historic section of the city, the mural is likely to become a major new landmark greeting travelers to Cheboygan. All proceeds from the auction will be used for costs related to the installation of the mural.

Item may be picked up at the Cheboygan Opera House for no shipping charge.

If shipping is desired, item will be shipped via USPS. Shipping fee will be $15 per quilt. Tracking information will be emailed as soon as it's available.
