A Night Under the Stars

Benefiting Abeona House's Scholarship Fund

Night Under the Stars is Abeona House’s signature fundraiser. Night Under the Stars attracts over 100 families of young children living in New Orleans each year. We come together to celebrate the community that makes Abeona House great and to rejoice in Abeona’s values: joie de vivre, diversity, fresh food, and children-led learning. This evening is dedicated to raising funds for our scholarship program that supports families and continues to expand our community. This year’s event is adults-only. Arm babies are allowed to attend with their parents if they can be worn.

Named after the Roman goddess of children leaving home for the first time, the Abeona House Child Discovery Center is a nonprofit organization based in New Orleans that arose from Hurricane Katrina. After the storm, many childcare centers did not reopen, including the Gris Gris House, a Reggio Emilia-inspired center. The former families served by this unique program decided to create the Abeona House to continue to provide a Reggio Emilia-style education in New Orleans. Parents volunteered time and resources in the initial creation of this vital community resource and are our key to its continued success.

We believe that an extraordinary education should be available to all young children and their families -- regardless of resources. Each year, Abeona House’s parents, Abeona Alumni, volunteers, and teachers host this event to raise funds to underwrite the tuition for families who otherwise would not be able to afford to attend.
