St. Monica’s Catholic School is located in Barrie, Ontario and educates a diverse population of 425 students from JK to Grade 8. Our school families speak a variety of languages and celebrate a multitude of cultural heritages. Student enrollment at St. Monica’s has continued to grow every year.

The St. Monica’s outdoor education and recess environment is not what it used to be because the playground equipment is over 25 years old. The outdoor area at the front of our school needs to be repaired and updated. Additionally, our kindergarten students are confined to a small, asphalt playscape that lacks interactive elements.  

The school outdoor environment can only be updated through Parent Council fundraising. A group of parents from the St. Monica’s community launched an initiative called Jump into Play, with the intention of raising $150,000 for an updated outdoor environment. We’re hoping our community will rally together to support this project. 

Our plan for the new outdoor environment would include multiple different sections that could be used all year long. The St. Monica’s Building Committee is currently reviewing the new “Landscape and Child Development: A Design Guide for K-12 Outdoor Play and Learning Environments” to ensure that the new plan is current and most appropriate for the various play areas under review.
