Maggie Daigle
Casco, Maine

I come from a family of creators - musicians, sculptors, jewelers, luthiers and painters. My love of making images compelled me to study fine art and photography in college. And this led to a career in advertising, graphic design and digital communications. All my past creative endeavors have informed my paintings. I started in oil, but then fell in love with watercolor for its challenges and vibrancy of color. Another favorite is gouache for its chalky finish and the ability to build in layers. One of my gouache works won first place at the Naples for the Arts Show. Recently I became captivated by acrylics and working in larger formats, exploring maritime subjects. I have a long and enduring relationship with the ocean. I grew up sailing and married a sailor. When our kids were grown, we ditched our corporate jobs and sailed around the world. That adventure led to another four years of working and living on sailboats before returning to land. Now we live in the beautiful wilds of Casco in the Western Lakes Region of Maine. We split our time between our quiet country life with our bees and chickens, and time sailing in coastal New England with our kids. I am a member of the Bridgton Art Guild and show my work at Gallery 302 at 112 Main Street, Bridgton. I hold a BA in Fine Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University and have continued my painting studies thru Maine College of Art and various workshops with inspiring Maine artists. Painting is my never-ending, wonderful journey.

“I heard about Growing to Give from a fellow Rotarian who participated in the art auction in past years. I wanted to contribute in my small way to Growing to Give’s mission of supporting neighbors in need. My husband and I currently deliver food each week for the Harrison Food Pantry to people in our community with food insecurity. Many of them have no transportation or are immune-compromised and cannot get to a food store or food pantry because of the Covid 19 Pandemic. I have seen first-hand the power of fresh food in enriching other’s lives - not only nutritionally, but also emotionally. I have enjoyed visiting Scatter Good Farm to see the amazing vegetables and flowers growing. Its a beautiful landscape in which to paint and I fell in love with the goats in the goat barn. I often paint animal portraits on commission, so naturally I thought a goat portrait would make a good submission piece. The goats were resting in the barn and staying out of the heat. I love the golden light that was coming in the door and reflecting off the hay. The goat I painted gave me this wonderful look with bright eyes gleaming. I knew instantly that he would be the subject for my painting.
